Children’s book written by David Shannon translated into ASL by Windell “Wink” Smith. Produced by Project NADINE and callVRS ASL story Project NADINE And callVRS Partner For Childhood Literacy Project NADINE is thrilled to announce that we have the honor to host callVRS ASL Story Videos. This project hopes to promote literacy for children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing. Earlier this year, callVRS (a Video Relay Service for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing based in Clearwater, Florida) followed through on their promise to not be the average Video Relay Service. In doing so, they shocked the Deaf community with innovative use of Video Phone technology to promote childhood literacy with the use of ASL. callVRS started a program called “ASL Story” that enables Video Phone users to call ASLstory.info on their Video Phones or Video Phone software to view an ASL Story translated from popular children’s books. This new venue is what callVRS co-owner Keith Wann calls supporting Deaf literacy. “As someone who grew up bilingually with ASL and English, and as someone who has children, I understand firsthand the crucial influence of bilingualism upon children, especially those who are deaf,” Wann says. “Yet not all of them have easy access to ASL-narrated stories. By combining modern video technology with ASL, we can provide on-demand ASL storytelling at no cost to them.” New ASL Stories will be uploaded monthly. Previous and future performers include: Keith Wann, Crom Saunders, and …

My friend Michael Morpurgo’s amazing movie of War Horse is premiered in London today, which gives me the idea of drawing a War Horse based on my Grandfather’s First World War experiences in the Essex Yeomanry. He was one of the last British soldiers to ride into battle on a horse at Ypres on the 13th May 1915. My Great Uncle Wilfred was injured that day and died of his wounds on the 23rd, ten days later. Great Uncle Victor won the Military Cross. This drawing is inspired by a picture in the family photo album. you can see more warhorses at the Essex Yeomanry website on this great collection of First World War photographs www.essex-yeomanry.org.uk where you will see more War Horses and details of their tack. This video is brought to you by award winning illustrator, Shoo Rayner, who has illustrated well over 200 children’s books for famous authors and for his own stories. Twitter twitter.com Google+ plus.google.com Facebook www.facebook.com Website www.shoorayner.com music by http Follow Shoo’s other channels www.youtube.com for short snappy lessons and www.youtube.com for chat, advice, techniques and interviews with other great artists and illustrators. I use a Rotring Tikky Graphic 0.3 pen. The paper is fairly cheap drawing cartridge or bristol paper. Find out more about me and my books at my website www.shoorayner.com. and my apps at http Look me up on Amazon or in your local bookstore. I’ve illustrated over 200 books in my time! Enjoy!

www.poptopictv.com Harry Potter: “The Deathly Hallows Part 2″ PopFlixs Review w/ Amanda Howell I remember my mom explaining these books to me, that they were the book equivalent of a Lay’s potato chip…I couldn’t read just one. As my mom is a fourth grade teacher, I thought this was her attraction, and that these were simply children’s books and I’d have no interest. She bet me to read the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, one summer when I was home from college and within a week had all four books that were released by then read. I LOVED them — I got sucked in just like the rest of the world. JK Rowling has created the most magical world of wizards and muggles alike, and the connection you feel towards the characters is magnetic. Which is why I’m so happy to report that the second of the Deathly Hallows films gives audiences an ending that is more than worthy of this brilliant franchise.

Emmy, their rapidly growing dragon, has become a real grouch, saying she’s missing “something,” and the cousins don’t have a clue what that something is. Jesse and Daisy go online to ask Professor Andersson, their favorite dragon expert, for help and end up seeing him being kidnapped! In this third fantasy book in the Dragon Keepers series, Kate Klimo introduces readers to a magical library filled with shelf elves and reveals the secrets of the gigantic red book that Jesse and Daisy discovered in The Dragon in the Sock Drawer. She keeps the action and adventure flying while bringing both heart and imagination to this tale of two kids and a dragon, growing up together. The Dragon Keepers series is perfect for kids who crave books about dragons and magic but are caught betwixt and between—too old for Magic Tree House and not yet ready for Eragon and the Inheritance cycle.
